Baby (0-12 months)
In our birth to one area we have highly experienced staff whose priority is to follow the home routine of each baby as closely as possible. We have a spacious play area with a quiet and secure sleeping area. We provide a variety of stimulating activities in a caring and friendly environment in order to promote your baby’s all round development. All planning will be displayed on the room wall for you to view and see what activities and development your child will be participating in that week.
Our nursery provides wipes and nappies, although parents are required to supply milk to ensure continuity between home and nursery for all babies. We are a breast feeding friendly nursery and support mothers returning to work who wish to breast feed. Our staff are trained in the storage and use of breast milk, welcome you visiting to feed during the day where possible.
Baby 2 Room
Your child will move to the Baby Room 2 Area at around 12 months of age until they are around 24 months. In the Baby 2 Room Area we begin to adopt a more challenging and varied approach to the day. This will include such activities as painting, sand and water play, music, physical activity and much more. This may sound a little complicated for young children but it is possible for an eighteen month old child to play with sand and water or create a mini masterpiece with paint….and they love it!!
Our children spend time outside in our large play area and forest garden, looking for creepy crawlies, building dens and helping to take care of our animals. We have four chickens, two rabbits and two micro pigs. The children really enjoy seeing and speaking to the animals each day and love collecting any eggs that the chickens have laid. Your child’s day is recorded for you to take home so you will know what they have been learning at Holyrood.
Toddler (2-3 years)
Your child will move to our Toddler Room at around 24-36 months. In our Toddler Room we promote independent learning and self-care skills. We enjoy sensory activities such as fruit tasting, making sensory bottles and playing in corn flour. Any messy play we love, as it encourages us to explore and develop our language skills. We also take walks with the children using our walkodiles to the local Salford Quays, and BBC where we have story time at CBeebies so we can enhance our literary skills and build our confidence ready for the challenges in Preschool.
Pre-School (3-5 years)
Holyrood is recognised as a pre-school centre by the Education Department. Your child will progress to the Pre-school Area at around 3 years, (Staff Ratio 1:8). Here children have a much greater choice of learning opportunities including arts and crafts, construction activities, table top games and learning with our giant smart board! Your child will be introduced to early numeracy and literacy skills and activities designed to develop their communication skills.
At Holyrood we pride ourselves on ensuring that when children leave the nursery to move on to school they do so confidently and independently, whilst taking with them the enjoyment of learning and pride in their achievements. We would strive for your child to be able to have the following skills when leaving nursery: recognising and writing their own name, demonstrating good observational skills, showing preliminary reading skills, able to confidently control a pencil, showing creative skills and knowledge of numbers.
We love to get outside at Holyrood Media City! We have a large outdoor play area which provides our children with the opportunity to get fresh air and have fun in a safe and secure area. Our nursery’s outdoor area has a large castle, slide, a large forest garden including planters, bikes, trikes, a sand pit and lots more! Our children love spending their time outdoors looking for creepy crawlies, building dens and helping grow their own food.
As well as access to our fabulous outdoor play areas, children of all ages enjoy walks in the local area. Our youngest children are often seen out in our double
buggies enjoying the fresh air, sights and sounds of the local community. We use Walkodile child safety systems and high visibility vests to keep children safe when out on trips away from the nursery.
